1. Get to know your bread machine

Bread machines are different, and if you want to master the “art” of making great tasting, light bread, you have to know your bread machine in and out. This usually takes some experience with the machine, which only comes with time and baking, but you can do some things to shorten the process. We highly recommend that you pick a bread machine that’s popular. Why? Because there will be a lot of people out there that has used the same bread machine, and therefore have tips and suggestions for how to use it.

But if you read the manual and watch the YouTube video, you should be set to start using your bread machine.

2. Figure out the bread capacity of the machine

Figure out how big of a bread you can make in the bread machine you have chosen. Most bread machines are able to make loaves of 1.5 or 2lbs in size. It’s important that you check this before adding the ingredients, as you want to make sure that you don’t overload the machine with contents. Remember bread rises a lot.

3. Get the ingredients

As you may know, there are some standard ingredients for bread making. This includes:

  • flour
  • yeast
  • sugar
  • salt
  • fats
  • liquids

Note: It’s important that the yeast that you use say “Active Dry”, as it works so much better with bread machines. You’ll also notice that sometimes you’ll see yeast that is specifically made for bread machine baking. That’s also a good option.

It’s also a good idea to aim for “Bread flour”, which as the name suggests, is better for making bread.

We highly recommend that you follow a recipe the first time you bake with your bread machine. There’s literally hundreds of recipes out there specifically made for bread machines. You can, however, also use “standard” bread recipes. In other words, you don’t have to use recipes specifically designed for bread machine baking.

4. Start the baking

Select the settings that your bread machine wants you to, and let the kneading and baking start! Most bread machines allow you to choose the bread crust, color, and so much more.

5. The bread is done – BEEP BEEP!

Most bread machines will start making a beep sound when they’re done making the bread. You also won’t be in doubt if the bread is completely baked, as a fantastic smell will surround the room. Voila, there’s your delicious, great-looking bread!
